A Most Likeable Wedding
In July 2006 a couple took their wedding vows in front of 500 family members and friends and 5,000 strangers. They raised enough money from sponsors to cover the cost of the wedding and $20,000 to give to MS Society. This was not only a dream wedding but a dream promotion with their sponsors getting $20 million worth of earned media.
The couple who managed to pull this off was Carrie and Dave Kerpen. With their marketing background they created a promotional event and offset the costs of an expensive New York wedding. The Brooklyn Cyclones agreed to let the couple get married at home plate following a game. They were able to get sponsors for flowers, alcohol, and other items.
Weeks later they began receiving calls asking what was next. Since a repeat wedding was not possible they decided to put up a company instead. The company is Likeable Media. It is based in New York City and founded in 2007.
This firm blends the new and the old. It is a social media and word-of-mouth marketing firm. Likeable Media currently has more than 200 companies whose social media presences the marketing firm manages. Its mission is to make its clients more transparent, responsive, and of course likeable.
It was certainly one great wedding!
